ABOUT US

Tyson’s Storehouse Education Center was birthed out of the frustration and disappointments of its founder, Natasha Tyson. Frustrated with the collateral consequences and barriers ex-offenders must contend with once released from custody.

Natasha decided to turn these barriers and frustrations into something positive, which for her, was to start a nonprofit organization to help individuals with a criminal record.

A nonprofit that would address the factors that often predispose individuals to criminal activities: living in low-income communities, not completing high school, and limited employment opportunities.

Natasha was a teen parent by age 14, high school dropout by 16, and a convicted felon by 18.

Fast forward to 2022, Natasha has earned her GED, a bachelor and master’s degree. She has been in education for over 15 years and volunteered for Atlanta Public Schools as GED and ESL instructor.

In 2010, Ms. Tyson received a full pardon from the state of Georgia for her charges. Her and her son Brandon have defied all statistics that showed neither one of them should have achieved their level of success.

Brandon attended University of Mississippi and later graduated from Dalton State University with an associate degree in Occupational Therapy.

Many people wonder, what prevented Natasha from getting caught up in the cycle of poverty and returning to prison?

Her response “God first, family and community support second, and thirdly my education.”
